Concrete Design uses the fabrication process developed by the Cheng Exchange. The goal is to produce a product that is termed a “perfect slab”. This method eliminates grinding, while maintaining a high polished finish.
To make a "perfect slab", first a watertight mold needs to be created using high gloss laminates. The laminates give the surface a high polished look. Secondly, integral colors are added to a dry concrete mix. These dyes allow concrete to be fabricated in almost any color. After admixtures are included in the dry mixture, the hydration process begins. Water quantity is carefully measured to ensure proper fluidity and strength. Once the concrete is mixed accurately, it is placed into the mold where it will sit for days to cure. During this stage, the concrete hardens and takes shape. After proper cure time, the concrete is removed from the mold and sealed using a stain resistant sealer. At this point, the countertop is ready to be installed. This whole process takes about 10 - 15 business days.
