Origins began in 2003. It was the dream of two people who fell in love with the streamline look and quality of concrete countertops. Markus Saffert, one of the founders of Origins, stumbled across concrete countertops at a Las Vegas business convention. Markus was so impressed with what he discovered that he joined The Cheng Concrete Exchange, a school that teaches the highest quality craftsmanship of the decorative concrete discipline.
The other founder, Derek Peters, came across concrete countertops at a high end residential home and was blown away with the countertops look and feel. Formerly a superintendent for a large construction firm in Detroit, Derek experimented with concrete in his own kitchen applying the techniques he learned in the construction field before joining Markus to found Origins Concrete Designs.
Once located in Sylvan Lake, the design studio has recently moved to the Russel Industrial Center, a thriving artist hub in Detroit.
